YOUNG MAN THERES NO NEED TO BE DOWN……..

Sports firsts made a short trip to Chesteron School to take on (altogether now)….. Y.M.C.A  in the cup The pitch was a rather pleasant little trek, Firstly a stroll  across the main road, then  over the bridge, followed by a trip through the tunnel, on a punt down the river to come out at the ’special kids’ playing field next to Lady Adrian School. The ramble of Sports shall we say degenerates gathered pitch side awaiting  Grandmaster Cheges instructions.  Good to see a few of the Sports faithful turn up to support/barrack/abuse/laugh and shout stuff to us. Blackie/Mo/Craske/Banger/Sherbert/Stan Jones and his laddo Sparky/ A team Gaffer Hendo aswell as regulars Kev Jacklin and the clan that is Mason. George Lunn was also pitchside. Apologies if I have missed anyone, you musta turned up after kick off!!!!
Absentees this week were Jason Lynch, who got smashed at a birthday party where  Sean Whitehead was singing the night before.  Apparently Him and the birthday boy Kevin, were close buddies… Yet the fellas name was Keith. Dan Booker was on a beach in L.A. teaching the next generation of hasslehoffs the way to lifeguard stardom. Dre I believe was up Norfffffff with his missus? , Bobby Saunders was playing tiddlywinks with himself.
Smudger was doing his best Dappy Impression on the sidelines.. NANANANA NIIIIII with his Dappy hat and colour co-ordinated attire The rest of us were there and ready….  The popular 4-4-2 formation was chosen by G.M.Chege and was as follows……

Cooooooooops in sticks, Captain Wright Wight Wright partnering Laurie, Laurie , Laurieeeeeee (ahahaha) in the middle. fullbacks were (who are we?) JULES FC on the left and just plain old Mason on the right. Centre Mid consisted of our resident ALF, Kizza. (thats Alien Life Form to you and me) alongside him S.J . Wingers today were Dan of the brothers Bashford and Fletch of the er.. Fletchers.  Up top was Hogger and ball carrier Damo next to him was Wacko buckalo Jacko.
Subs for the game were Fatty Matty the other brother of the brothers Bashford , John Chege the brother of our fearless leader, we also had Fergie, yes Fergie with us today,. I might add it was not the fitt bird from Black Eyed Peas, nope sorry folks it was only Fergie from the Ressies who was brought up to the firsts by Chege.

We heard YMCA werent gonna be our toughest test of the seaon, however they were not to be taken lightly (as most of our side do with every team  we play each week) Wrighty won the toss and Sports looked to dominate early on. As always the first 10 minutes or so are to feel out the oppos tactics, but also get the ball down and try to carve openings for early goals. A few sloppy passes/ first touches of rapists, Their foreign fella yup top seemed tricky and strong and a few mistakes, misjudgments on our part. and general lack of command gave YMCA a glimpse that they could get something out this game,  However that didnt last too long. A foul on TANK Laurie just outside the centre circle got us a free kick. Coops came, looked, picked out Damo over the top of the tall centre half with a lofted knock down the middle and Damos determination was there to see as he beat the keeper to the ball and lobbed him on a half volley to put Sports 1-0. Not quite cruising, but a good start nonetheless. YMCA came back at us nothing to troubling for Coops and the backline. Clearances were easily made and some of that ‘football’ we can play was shown at points with Damo and Jack ever the more dangerous each time the ball hit their feet. Their understanding of each other is a different class. Damo winning flicks for Jack, quick 1-2s to beat players. The more we pressed the inevitability that we’d score a second was on the cards. Some neat interchange play from across the middle of the park led to a sports corner. Pinpoint accuracy from Fletch picked out Damo free at the back post for a banmging header 2-0. How a guy as good in the air as Damo was left unmarked by the oppo was beyond me? They musta missed the other dozen headers he kept winning against Sami Hypia at the back for them!!!!
The rest of the half was Dominated by Sports and a couple of chances from Jack, brought a couple of saves from the keeper. A few other half chances followed. YMCA rarely troubled us at the back. The D line standing strong and Coops handling was spot on for corners and punches from the long drawn out throw ins. Half time and we strolled into the break 2-0 up and comfortably in control.

The usual fag bandits blazed em up, the rest got drinks, had a chat and sat down. The instruction was simple. Get the ball down, play the football, open em up and finish em off early. as the Merkat says…..SIMPLES

The Village People kicked off the 2nd half which started pretty much the same as the first. Sports in control looking to push on and bury YMCA early doors. 2-0 up soon became 3-0 as a dreeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaam ball buy Mason hot Damo right on his foot, with one more touch to get it out of his feet, the half volley that followed nearly ripped the net!!!! Even the lads watching 2 sides on the pitch behind our goal gave the lad a clap and a few ‘WEYS’ and ‘OOOOO’s’ came out from our lot on the sidelines. Hatrick for Damo, 3 for Sports. Job done. At this point YMCA brought on another centre forward to partner the tireless striker they had to give him some support.
HTo be fair he was a nippy customer. Nice first touch and good on the ball, shame he couldnt hit a barn door… more of that later.  Cruise control now Chege made his first change of the morn. Matty bashford making his come back after being injured replacing Jack to go up front with Damo.  Not long after that substitution Sports got another and Damo got his 4th. (greedy
barsto) Dan Bashford and Jules linked up down the left after a Coops clearance and Dan laid the ballon for Damo to slot home with his left peg first time. That was vintage Sports, vintage Damo finishing  4-0 game well and truely over. Chege soon after made 2 more subs. 4 star Damo being replaced by John Chege and SJ off for Fergie, who came on looking to impress for a push for a first team place.

Fergie made some good link play with the front two and the ever busy Dan Bashford gave good support. Fletch although quiet for most parts of the game had a contribution in Sports 5th and final goal of the game. a quick
1-2 with John Chege, the ball slotted through to an onrunning Bashford to squeeze the ball through the keepers front post and outstretched arm. He then growled  after lettiong that in, despite his best efforts. Couldnt blame the lad if it werent for him we’d have got 8 or 9. As it was Sports 5-0 up and we relaxed a bit more, although still looking to add to our tally. There was time for one more goal and to be fair he struck it well.
The left winger cut inside Jules FC and slammed home opver Coops who lost his bearings regarding his post position. Needless to say a minor mistake after having naff all else to do., Although I was rather disappointed to let in a goal like that!!!!! The final whisetle blew and Sports bounced into the next round of the Cup

M.O.M : (Cheges words) I thought 4 players really stood out today, Dan Bash endless work down the left as Jules Fc and Mason following his lead.
Providing more attacking support down their perspective sides of the pitch.
No doubt today who was M.O.M Damo with a 4 star display to send Sports through to the next round. Hes been desperate to find the back of the net on a regula basis and he did so today, he could have 6 or 7 if hed have passed a bit more… Just a bit more mind, not much but a bit more. Did I say a bit more? I mean lots more.  (those are my words -Coops)
Big shout to everyone who attended, not also forgetting Kev J and John M for running a nifty line. Oh and the rest of the players who played, all put in a good shift on what could have been a potential banana skin on our quest for Cup glory

One last thing from your resident Guvnor…….. COME ON JEDWARD!!!! get ya votes in people and get those boys a record deal. You all love them dont lie!!!!!!  Adios for now Coops

Great match report COOPS! in double-quick time too.

I thought we played some good stuff at times and as always looked really dangerous going forward…. great to see Damo step up and bang some goals in!

This Sunday against Oakington is massive, Im desperate to get revenge on them after they knocked the reserves out of the cup in the semi-final last season… we’ll be without, Wrighty, Dan Bash, Bobby, Smithy and Jacklin so it will be tough! then Gamlingay the week after so two massive matches to decide the direction of our season…

Nice report, if a little one-sided! Well done on the win – you’re certainly the strongest side we’ve played this season. Any chance we could get hold of the photos from the game? Cheers.

To be honest dude it was a one sided game was it not? I had no saves to make, I let in a goal which on another day I woulda caught. I lost my bearings and misjudgement cost me. The only other chance you had , fell to the Chinese fella up front and he passed it back to me. We coulda had ten in truth, your keeper made 4 good stops and god knows how many Damo volleyed wide. Count yourselves lucky.
